Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why have a destination wedding?

Your wedding day is all about celebrating your love and spending quality time with your family and friends. A destination wedding gives you the opportunity to turn your special day into an unforgettable experience, with more time to relax, connect and make lasting memories together.

At Global Weddings, we take care of the planning and coordination, allowing you to enjoy the entire journey from the initial planning stages right through to your wedding day. Whether you dream of a romantic private villa in Bali or a beautiful destination elsewhere in the world, we’ll help bring your vision to life.

2. What is the average cost of a destination wedding?

Destination weddings range from AUD $50,000.00, which covers your venue, catering and the essential elements required to create your special day.

Every wedding is unique, and the final cost will depend on your chosen destination, private villa, guest numbers and personal preferences. We work closely with you to create a wedding that suits your vision and budget.

3. What is a wedding proposal?

Your wedding proposal is a detailed, itemised breakdown of your wedding costs, based on your chosen private villa, inclusions and preferences.

It outlines the inclusions, optional extras and associated costs, giving you a clear understanding of your overall wedding budget before moving forward.

4. Can I receive proposals for more than one villa?

Absolutely! We can prepare proposals for up to three different private villas or venue combinations for our AUD $300 proposal fee. The AUD $300 will come off the total of your wedding if you proceed.

This allows you to compare your options and find the destination and villa that best suit your vision, guest numbers and budget. We’ll guide you through the process and help you choose the perfect setting for your special day.

5. Can you help with our travel arrangements and honeymoon?

Of course! We would love to help you organize your travel arrangements and honeymoon.

Having travelled extensively, our team can share recommendations and insights to help you discover wonderful places to stay and experiences to enjoy before or after your wedding.

6. Will our overseas wedding be legally recognized?

Depending on your chosen destination, you may be able to have a legally recognized marriage overseas or choose a non-legal commitment ceremony.

The requirements vary between countries, so we recommend discussing your preferred destination with us early in the planning process.

7. Can we have a civil ceremony, or does it have to be religious?

This depends on the country and destination you choose. Many destinations offer civil ceremonies, while others have specific legal or religious requirements.

Contact us to discuss your preferred destination, and we can guide you on the requirements that may apply.

8. Can you organize our wedding cake, flowers, photography, hair and makeup?

Absolutely! We can assist with arranging all the important details that bring your wedding vision together, including your cake, flowers, photography, hair and makeup.

We work with experienced local suppliers in our wedding destinations, particularly Bali, and can recommend options to suit your style and preferences.

9. Do we pay everything in Australian dollars, even though our wedding is overseas?

Yes, we provide your wedding costs in Australian dollars, making it easier for you to understand and manage your budget.

As some wedding expenses are priced in foreign currencies, exchange rate fluctuations may affect costs. If the Australian dollar is strong, paying deposits or settling eligible costs earlier may help you manage currency exposure. We’ll explain how foreign currency costs apply to your proposal.

10. Will a Global Weddings representative be present on our wedding day?

Yes! Depending on the option you choose, Narelle Williams or Sasha Newbold will be coordinating your wedding day, ensuring everything comes together beautifully so you can relax and enjoy every moment of your special day.

For weddings in Thailand, Fiji and our other international destinations, on-the-day support will depend on your chosen destination, guest numbers and the level of service selected.

Regardless of where you choose to get married, we work closely with trusted local suppliers and ensure everything is carefully planned and coordinated in advance, giving you peace of mind and allowing you to focus on celebrating with your family and friends.

11. How far in advance should we plan our wedding?

We recommend starting your planning as early as possible, particularly if you have a larger guest list or specific dates and private villas in mind.

Most couples begin planning between 6 and 18 months in advance. This allows plenty of time to secure your preferred venue, organize suppliers and give your guests time to make their travel arrangements.

We generally prefer not to take on weddings with less than three months' notice, as we want to ensure there is sufficient time to organize everything properly.

12. How do I change my name after getting married overseas?

If you wish to change your surname after your overseas wedding, the process will depend on your circumstances and country you are from.

Start by visiting the official government website for your state or territory and searching for information about changing your name after marriage. Make sure you use an official government source, as requirements and documentation can vary.
